You won't even miss the yeast with these quick and tasty doughnut holes! Simply mix, roll, and fry them to make them. They don't require any rising, kneading, or proofing. After frying, I like to wrap them in cinnamon sugar, but they also taste fantastic with confectioners or regular sugar.
Ingredients to make Instant Donut Balls
1 cup all-purpose flour
1/2 tsp baking Soda
1/2 cup yogurt
1 cup powdered sugar
1 tsp vanilla extract
Water
Oil for frying
Instructions to make Instant Donut Balls
In a mixing bowl, combine the flour, baking soda, and yogurt. Mix well.
The batter should be thick and smooth.
Heat the oil in a deep fryer or a heavy-bottomed pot over medium heat. Use a thermometer to monitor the temperature and adjust the heat as necessary to maintain a temperature of 350°F.
Use a small cookie scoop or a spoon to drop the batter into the hot oil, about a tablespoon at a time. Fry the donut balls for 2-3 minutes, or until golden brown on all sides.
Use a slotted spoon to remove the donut balls from the oil and transfer them to a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.
Make a sugar glaze with powdered sugar, water, and vanilla essence.
Once the donut balls have cooled slightly, coat them in sugar glaze and dry them on a rack.
Serve the donut balls in sugar glaze and enjoy!
This recipe makes about 20-24 donut balls, depending on the size of the scoops. You can easily double or triple the recipe if you need to feed a crowd.
These donut balls are best enjoyed fresh, but you can store any leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to two days.
So there you have it, a quick and easy recipe for delicious donut balls that you can make in a flash. Enjoy!
