Chicken Chanay
Ingredients for Potato Paste:
Potatoes (boiled) 1 ½ cup
Ingredients for Boiled Chickpeas:
Water as required
White chickpeas (soaked) 2 cups
Ingredients for Chicken Chanay:
Oil 1 ½ cup
Red chili powder 1 tbsp
Salt 1 tbsp
Cumin powder 1 tbsp
Coriander powder 1 tbsp
Turmeric powder 1 tsp
Black pepper powder 1 tbsp
Chicken boneless (cubes) 800 g
Ginger garlic paste 1 tbsp
Onion paste 1 cup
Tomato puree 1 cup
Prepared tomato paste
Yogurt 2/3 cup
Boiled white chickpeas
Reserved white chickpeas stock 1 cup
Ingredients for Tarka:
Oil 1 cup
Curry leaves 8-10
Whole red button chilies 4-5
Ginger (chopped) 1 tbsp
Paprika powder 1/2 tsp
Directions for Potato Paste Preparation:
1. In a blender add boiled potatoes and blend them well into paste. Set aside.
Directions for Boiled Chickpeas Preparation:
2. In a pot heat water and add white chickpeas. Boil for 35-40 mins. Strain and reserve the chickpeas stock for later use. Set aside.
Directions for Chicken Chanay Preparation:
3. In a pot heat oil and add red chili powder, salt, black pepper powder, turmeric powder, coriander powder, cumin powder and cook for a minute.
4. Add chicken and cook until chicken changes color. Add onion paste, tomato puree and cook for 2-3 mins. Add potato paste and mix it well.
5. Add yogurt and cook until oil separates. Add boiled chickpeas and cook for 3-4 mins. Add reserved chickpeas stock and cover and cook for 5-10 mins. Set aside.
Directions for Tarka Preparation:
6. In a pan heat oil and add whole red button chilies, paprika, ginger, curry leaves and cook for a minute.
7. Pour this tarka over chicken chanay and mix it well. Your Chicken Chanay are ready.

Cooking time: 1 hour 15 mins
