Crispy Orange Shrimp Recipe
This Crispy Orange Shrimp is packed with bold flavors, coated in a sweet and tangy orange sauce, and perfect for serving over rice or noodles!
Ingredients
For the Shrimp:
• 1 lb shrimp (peeled and deveined)
• 1 egg
• 2 tbsp hot sauce
• 1 tbsp onion powder
• 1 tbsp garlic powder
• ½ tsp seasoning salt
• 1 tsp paprika
• 1 tsp ground black pepper
• ½ cup cornstarch (for coating)
• ½ cup all-purpose flour (for coating)
• Oil for frying
For the Orange Sauce:
• ½ cup fresh orange juice
• 1 tbsp orange zest
• 2 tbsp soy sauce
• 1 tbsp honey (or brown sugar)
• 1 tbsp rice vinegar
• 2 cloves garlic (minced)
• 1 tsp ginger (grated)
• ½ tsp red pepper flakes (optional)
• 1 tsp cornstarch + 2 tbsp water (to thicken)
• Sesame seeds & green onions (for garnish)
Instructions
1. Season the Shrimp:
In a bowl, whisk together egg and hot sauce. Add shrimp and mix well. Sprinkle in onion powder, garlic powder, seasoning salt, paprika, and black pepper. Toss to coat evenly.
2. Coat the Shrimp:
In a separate bowl, mix cornstarch and flour. Dredge each shrimp in the mixture, shaking off excess.
3. Fry the Shrimp:
Heat oil in a deep pan over medium-high heat. Fry shrimp in batches for 2–3 minutes per side until golden brown and crispy. Remove and drain on a paper towel.
4. Make the Orange Sauce:
In a saucepan over medium heat, sauté garlic and ginger for 30 seconds until fragrant. Add orange juice, orange zest, soy sauce, honey, rice vinegar, and red pepper flakes. Stir well.
5. Thicken the Sauce:
In a small bowl, mix cornstarch with water to make a slurry. Pour into the sauce and stir until thickened.
6. Toss and Serve:
Add crispy shrimp to the sauce and toss until well coated. Garnish with sesame seeds and green onions. Serve immediately over rice or noodles.
